tangorines: (♘ Yeah. I'm going to say no.)

[The feed begins with a normal sight: a pokémon tinkering with the pokégear. It's a ledyba, which is strange considering how cold the weather has been these last few weeks days. Stranger still are its surroundings. No warm rooms for this little buggy, it's exploring the great outdoors! ...A bug-type? Wandering in the snowy outdoors? Without its trainer? From the lopsided view of the camera, the ledyba seems only steps outside of Cherrygrove City. It continues wandering until it comes towards the city's entrance.]

Ledyba. [The small pokémon hurries towards the voice and calls back with its own name. From its position on the ground, only so much of the world around it can be seen. The lower half of a young boy approaches it, his steps lithe even in thick snow. From the waist up he cannot be seen but a smile can still be heard in his voice.] Ledyba. What are you doing here?

[The pokémon and its camera hobble towards the boy, only to meet with a swift kick of his boot. The camera spirals backward and the ledyba with it.] I said go back to the old man! Get out of here, stupid!

[The boy doesn't kick it again. He kneels down beside it, his face easily seen now. He seems almost remorseful, as he reaches down to touch the ledyba. He picks up the pokémon by two of its limbs and stands up.] You know I don't like doing things like this, ledyba, but if you don't become stronger how am I supposed to have you follow me? You couldn't even fight against that rat. Maybe you're no better than bait. Is that it, ladybird?

[Ledyba shakes its head which entices a laugh from its trainer. Satisfied, Alois starts to walk back towards the city only to stop in his tracks. The pokégear was directly underfoot. With a smile, he picks it up and shuts off the feed.]

[He likes this person a lot.] That's bloody amazing! It's like a game, exactly like one!

[He laughs, thoroughly delighted by the idea. Alois grabs ledyba out of the air and pulls it closer to the gear.] And this one can become just as strong as that? ...Can you, ladybird? [Ledyba nods vigorously FINALLY SOME POSITIVE RECOGNITION. It's an answer enough to satisfy him.]

I can appreciate hard-earned power. [He looks more excited at the idea of causing earthquakes and downing lightning than should be expected.] Really? Could you call on one now?

[Envy smirks; this kid is pretty interesting.] I've heard people say that in their world it is a game of some kind.

[And was that an invitation to show off? It certainly was. Lucky for Alois he's outside the city limits training already. He grins, and turns the camera down to his side to reveal a Pupitar, and lightly raps his knuckles on its head.] This is Chimera, the little green thing I started with. And now...Chimera, go use Earthquake over there and show our new acquaintance what you can do. [Chimera is happy to obey, hopping a ways away before unleashing an Earthquake attack that causes the ground around him to rumble and split, felling a few small trees nearby.]

[This person has just transcended from 'mildly interesting' to 'potentially astounding'. It was even more amazing --and destructive--than he thought it would be. He looked over at his ledyba, as if gauging how much she could possibly do.]

Such power would make anyone fear you. Though, I wonder... what could you do with it, other than level whole cities?

[He shrugs, and smirks.] I like how you think. I suppose there could be productive uses of it all, but there isn't much fun in that, is there?

It is curious how so many humans hold such power in their hands, and yet there aren't any wars as far as I can tell. Just individual battles for sport.

[He gives Alois a considering look.] What's your name?

Precisely! [--This person wasn't human? That was... somehow a cruel twist of fate. The chance he meets another interesting person, they were otherworldly.]

I wouldn't know of any wars from where I'm from. It wasn't something I spent much time thinking over.

[He takes a moment to respond.] Alois Trancy. And your name?

Hm, well I did live in a military state, so I guess we had more wars than most places would. [Most of which he had helped to arrange to happen.]

Name's Envy.

Oh? So you've seen a lot of battles! What are they like, Envy? [He likes his name. It has a certain ring to it.]

Hah, they're noisy places. Lots of gunfire and screaming, and in the big battles there's so much blood it turns the ground muddy. It's all very exciting to watch.

[Alois imagines it as well as he can. It doesn't awaken many fond memories, but Envy's experiences do seem exciting. He leans against a tree, trying to get comfortable as he listens. There had to have been more to say that just three sentences.]

Were you a soldier?
